Botanical Gardens to offer children’s workshop on carnivorous plants

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

The UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens will hold a workshop on carnivorous plants for children ages 7 to 12 on Saturday, June 15, at McMillan Greenhouse.

In this workshop, children will learn about the what, why, where and how of plants that “eat” insects. Participants will explore the bog garden collections, feed a Venus flytrap and make a craft. The workshop, which starts at 1 p.m., features two options.

The first option, a 90-minute session, is $15 and includes a Venus flytrap to take home. The second option, a two-hour session, is $35 and will enable participants to build a 12-inch bog dish garden that includes a Venus flytrap, pitcher plant, sundew and bog moss.

To register, email Paula Gross (pmgross@uncc.edu) with the names and ages of attendees; payment can be cash or check on the day of the workshop.
