Chinese delegations visit EPIC

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Two delegations from China recently visited UNC Charlotte’s Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) to exchange ideas and discuss opportunities for collaboration with the University and Charlotte-based energy companies.

The first group was from Charlotte’s sister city of Baoding, China. One of the world’s greenest cities, Baoding is considered by the United Nations to be a carbon-positive city, meaning its production of clean energy saves more pollution than the carbon emissions it generates. In addition to its EPIC visit, the delegation met with Charlotte city council members, toured the Platinum-level LEED-certified Duke Energy Center and visited Packard Place.

The second Chinese delegation was the Asian Manufacturers Association.  The group was the guest of Huntersville and its mayor, Jill Swain. During their visit to North Carolina, the delegates met with Huntersville town officials and business leaders before coming to UNC Charlotte to tour EPIC. The meetings followed initial discussions held with Mayor Swain during a business recruitment trip to China in May and resulted from an invitation by the mayor for association leaders to visit Huntersville.
