Staff Council executive officers take oaths

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

UNC Charlotte Staff Council executive officers for the 2013-14 academic year were administered oaths of office by outgoing president Vidal Dickerson Wednesday, July 10, prior to the start of a daylong retreat at the Harris Alumni Center.

Incoming council president is Jim Kay, a facilities maintenance supervisor in the Student Union. Penny Stevens, an operations/systems analyst, ITS, will serve as vice president. Kimi Tippett, an administrative assistant in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Shannon Homesley, administrative assistant to the controller, are this year’s treasurer and secretary, respectively.

Established to create and provide a more harmonious working environment for the staff of UNC Charlotte, the Staff Council has been delegated, by the chancellor, the authority and responsibility to bring to the attention of the administration matters of general staff concern and to take such actions as are necessary to enable it to meet those responsibilities. The council also provides avenues for personal and professional development through an array of programs and community engagement opportunities.

To represent the campus, the council has assigned the University’s academic and administrative units to one of 18 areas with a council member elected (or appointed) to serve employees who work in that area.
