Women’s Summit to become Women + Girls Research Alliance

Thursday, July 25, 2013

Effective Monday, July 29, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Women’s Summit, a unit within Metropolitan Studies and Extended Academic Programs, will change its name to the Women + Girls Research Alliance.

According to co-directors Susan Jetton and Lisa Yarrow, the change better reflects the organization’s mission to serve as a catalyst for improving the lives of women and girls at all socio-economic levels through research, education and community engagement.

Founded in 2006 as a volunteer organization, the Women’s Summit was incorporated into Metropolitan Studies and Extended Academic Programs in 2010.

Going forward, the Women + Girls Research Alliance will focus resources to research issues affecting women and girls and will disseminate its unbiased data and analyses to the community.

Planning also is under way for the alliance’s 2014 biennial summit, scheduled for April 11, 2014.
