Thursday, August 15, 2013

49er New Year and RecFest will be held Sunday, Aug. 18; both events are annual happenings for new and returning students, and faculty and staff members, to celebrate the start of a new academic year.

RecFest will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Northeast Recreational Field complex (In the event of inclement weather, the event may be rescheduled). It will feature demonstrations from group fitness instructors, sport club members and intramural leagues. T-shirts will be given to the first 1,000 attendees. A number of area vendors will provide free food and drinks, and there will be carnival-style games.

49er New Year will be in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center and Halton Arena (note, this is a change in location due to weather concerns); the event starts at 5 p.m. Chancellor Philip L. Dubois and Art Jackson, vice chancellor for student affairs, will deliver opening remarks.

More “Week of Welcome” activities are planned for students through Sunday, Aug. 25.
