Become a Football Faculty Coach

Thursday, August 29, 2013

Charlotte 49ers football coaches and staff have created a Football Faculty Coach program, designed to introduce UNC Charlotte faculty members to the football program, coaches and players.

As the inaugural season gets under way, the Football Faculty Coach initiative is a way to establish a tradition of close collaboration between student-athletes, coaches and teachers, according to Charlotte 49ers officials.

Tony Schmitz, a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science in the Lee College of Engineering, is the faculty liaison for the program; he played football at Temple University and coaches the sport at a local high school.

For each home game, two faculty coaches will be selected to participate. They will learn more about the program, meet the coaches, attend practice, have dinner and watch a movie with the team and receive a special access game-day pass. Roy Fielding, kinesiology, and Camina Davis, public health sciences, were selected for the Aug. 31 game.
