Tuesday, September 3, 2013

The UNC Charlotte Staff Council has selected Marian Beane as the University’s nominee for the fourth annual Erskine Bowles Staff Service Award.

Beane, who works in the Office of International Programs, has been with the University for more than 40 years. OIP colleague Kelly Franklin, in nominating Beane for the award, wrote, “Her reach around the globe extends much farther than probably anyone on campus or in the entire state system simply due to her longevity and unique role as greeter, counselor and mother figure to thousands of international students and scholars from every corner of the world.”

The Bowles Staff Service Award is given to a permanent, full-time staff member who has shown exemplary understanding, empathy and devotion to mankind and whose accomplishments are consistent with the goals exemplified by the award’s namesake during his tenure as UNC president and in accordance with the systems’ public service mission.

The award recipient will be announced at the Oct. 15 meeting of the UNC Staff Assembly.
