The UNC Charlotte Film Studies program, College of Arts + Architecture and the Charlotte Film Society will present a series of films, which kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 14 The four-film “Cinematic Experience" will introduce attendees to a collection of documentary films that explore the nature of how individuals consume, experience and respond to cinema.
“Watching movies is a vital part of how we experience and have a dialogue with life itself,” said Jay Morong, lecturer of theater and film at UNC Charlotte and programmer for the Charlotte Film Society. “This series is important because it allows us to reflect on how we actually consume these films, in their various formats, and why those formats actually matter towards a larger meaning and importance of cinema for us as a culture.”
“Rewind This!” kicks off the series at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 14, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. The film centers around the story of the home video revolution. Videotape changed the world and laid the foundation for modern media culture through low-cost equipment that created unprecedented opportunities, and for the first time, major studios and small indies operated on an even playing field.
Future screenings are Oct. 12 with “The Projection Room” on Oct. 12, “The Rep” on Nov. 2 and “Martin Hill: Camera Man” on Nov. 9.
The Cinematic Experience screenings are free and open to the public.
