Staff Council to hold annual Fall Festival

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

UNC Charlotte employees can join in an annual tradition of food, games and contests as the Staff Council has set Tuesday, Oct. 8, as the date for this year’s Fall Festival.

A free event, the festival will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. Employees can compete to win prizes in the Fall Festival Bake-off and Photography contests as well as a Scavenger Hunt. Rules and entry forms are on the Staff Council website. Organizers plan to play bingo and hold a cake walk during the festival, too.

In addition to the food, vendors and giveaways that are part of the festival, the Staff Council designates a community organization to support. This year, Autumn Care Nursing Home is the selected beneficiary.  The organization suggests donations of socks, lotion, toothpaste, knitting materials, arts and craft supplies or gift cards to Wal-Mart or K-Mart. Fall Festival attendees who give to Autumn Care will be entered into a special drawing for a prize.

“Fall Festival is always a much anticipated event for the staff, and we look forward to seeing everyone come out and participate,” said Celeste Corpening, Area 4 representative on the council and one of the organizers. “There’s free food and beverages, and staff members get the chance to show off their culinary or creative skills in the bake-off and photography contests. Or get a team together to compete in the Scavenger Hunt. The Staff Council motto is ‘Progress is Moving Forward by Working Together,’ and the Fall Festival is a great way for us all to come together, have fun and support a worthwhile community organization.”

The UNC Charlotte Staff Council is the mechanism whereby staff can provide input on issues involving the University and campus community. The chancellor delegated the council the authority and responsibility to bring to the attention of the administration matters of general staff concern and to take such actions as are necessary to enable it to meet those responsibilities.
