Faculty and staff can register for Homecoming festivities

Monday, September 16, 2013

UNC Charlotte’s inaugural football season is underway, and 49er spirit is at an all-time high.  Catch green-and-white fever with the Homecoming celebration planned in conjunction with the Oct. 12 game against UNC Pembroke.

Faculty and staff members are invited to participate in the first football Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11.  Any campus department or group that would like to walk, drive or contribute a float for the parade should register online at the Homecoming website by Friday, Sept. 20. The fee to register is $20.

The Homecoming Lights Parade will start on east campus. Student organizations, faculty and staff, alumni and community groups will light up the campus streets with their floats, banners and spirit attire as the parade travels to the Student Union on Craver Road.

A pep rally in front of Student Union will immediately follow the parade. It will feature special performances from spirit groups, food from local restaurants, music, giveaways and more.  An awards ceremony will recognize parade categories for the best float, vehicle, walking unit and community entry.

All parade entries are encouraged to include lighting elements to their floats, cars and attire. If groups need assistance with décor, the Homecoming Committee will be selling light.
