Annual flu shot clinics set for Sept. 23, Oct. 15

It’s almost officially fall, which means it is time to think about flu season. Faculty and staff members can protect themselves, family and colleagues by getting immunized.

UNC Charlotte is hosting two on-campus flu shot clinics. Immunizations will be administered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, and Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room.

Employees and family members, age 4 and older, who are covered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) can participate in these free clinics.

Children between the ages of 4 and 17 must have parents with them. Children under age 4 must receive shots from their primary care physician.

Employees and their family members who are not covered by the State Health Plan or BCBSNC can obtain a flu shot from Maxim Healthcare for $30.

Pregnant women at any stage may receive the flu shot without a prescription.

Participants will be required to bring their current BCBSNC ID card and a photo ID to the clinic. They also will have to sign a consent form prior to receiving a flu shot.

New employees who do not have their health cards should bring their subscriber ID number, which can be obtained from BCBSNC at 888-234-2416.

Faculty and staff members may receive a flu shot from their doctor's office, participating health department or in-network immunizing pharmacist.
