University to host Carolina Conference on Queer Youth

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

The Multicultural Resource Center and Time Out Youth are joining forces to host the Carolina Conference on Queer Youth. This free, public event will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, in the Student Union.

A first-of-its-kind event for the state, the Carolina Conference on Queer Youth will unite college students, high school and middle school students, teachers, counselors and other practitioners who work with the LGBTQ community to start conversations about how to increase visibility in the community, said organizers.

Two keynote speakers who are influential members in the LGBTQ activism community will be featured, and there will be a number of breakout sessions, panel discussions and a caucus. Lunch will be provided to participants who sign up in advance.

Joshua Burford, assistant director for sexual/gender diversity for the MRC, said the conference will allow individuals access to professionals from all types of settings to gather together to talk about this important issue. He added the event will bring together people “who are all working to enhance the experience of queer young people in North Carolina.”
