The UNC Charlotte chapter of Phi Kappa Phi recently received a Chapter of Merit Award, given to chapters that excel in recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others.

“The UNC Charlotte Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is truly committed to the mission of ‘recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others.’ Our chapter has made a concerted effort to enhance the membership and visibility of the chapter both on campus and within the community,” said chapter president, Melba Spooner from the College of Education. “We have such a positive and active board, supportive campus leadership, as well as caring and energetic chapter members. Receiving the Chapter of Merit distinction is quite an honor, and it is so exciting to see the time commitment and hard work of this collective group of esteemed individuals recognized with this accolade.”

Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. The society acknowledged 69 chapters with recognition this year; UNC Charlotte’s chapter was one of 50 to receive the Chapter of Merit honor.
