University’s largest career fair set for April 4

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

More than 1,000 students and alumni, with resumes in hand, are expected at the University Career Center’s Spring Expo, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, April 4.

This annual event is the campus’ largest career fair, according to Career Center officials. Attendees will be able to network with representatives from more than 175 local, regional and national organizations, which will be seeking candidates for full-time jobs, internships, co-ops and graduate programs.

The University Career Center has seen signs of job market improvement, including an increase of available openings on NinerJobNet and increased attendance to career fairs by employers.

Brooke Brown, senior assistant director for publicity and outreach for the Career Center, said employers attending the Career Expo this past fall reported the need to fill 7,500 vacancies. She noted that nearly 60 percent are reporting they have more vacancies this year than in 2013.

The Spring Expo is considered a “must attend” event for May and August 2014 graduates; students from all majors and class levels , as well as alumni, are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to meet employers and graduate school representatives.

Among the 175-plus organizations registered to attend are even sponsors Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Schaeffler Group USA, along with Wells Fargo, Bridgestone, CMPD, Target, WBTV, Vanguard and the U.S. Department of State.  Additional information on attendees is online.
