Wednesday, March 19, 2014

UNC Charlotte’s observance of International Women’s Day will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Thursday, March 27, in the Student Union, Room 340.

This annual event will include historical and cultural information, as well as a recognition ceremony to acknowledge individuals nominated for their impact on the lives of women locally and globally.

As part of the 2014 celebration, there has been a discussion series around the film “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity.”  The final talk, led by alumna Jill Mourning, founder of All We Want is Love, a local nonprofit focus on trafficking awareness, will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, in the College of Health and Human Services, Room 281.

The Office of International Programs and the Multicultural Resource Center with support from Women’s and Gender Studies Program in College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Women’s Programs in the Dean of Students Office are cosponsors of the International Women’s Day celebration. The March 27 reception and ceremony are open to all on campus.

The United Nations recognizes International Women’s Day on March 8.
