Student dies in fall at Moore Hall

A UNC Charlotte freshman, Josh Helm, died Sunday, March 23, after a fall from the seventh floor of Moore Hall, a 12-story residence facility in South Village.

UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety responded to the incident, which is still under investigation.

John Bland, director of public relations, stated the death did not appear to be from foul play.

Counseling Center staff members, under the director of Dave Spano, were in Moore Hall Sunday afternoon to respond to residents’ needs. During normal operations, the Counseling Center is available to see students in crisis on a walk-in basis.

The Office of Housing and Residence Life also informed students living in other on-campus residential facilities of the death; the email encouraged students to discuss the situation with resident advisors or other staff personnel as needed.

Helm, 18, was from Raleigh.
