Jeffrey Miller will be the inaugural associate director of bands/director of athletics bands in the Department of Music; he will join the University starting with the 2014 fall semester.

At UNC Charlotte, Miller will direct the 49er Basketball Band, conduct the Symphonic Band and teach a course on marching band techniques. Additionally, he will plan and direct the University’s new marching band when it takes the field in fall 2015. The 49er drum line will perform for UNC Charlotte football games during the 2014 season.

Currently, Miller is interim assistant band director at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he also serves as the assistant director of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band. Before pursuing graduate studies at Florida State University, he was a high school band director.

“Dr. Miller has led outstanding bands at both the high school and college level,” said Jay Grymes, interim chair of the Department of Music. “He has the experience, enthusiasm and expertise to build a first-rate athletics band program at UNC Charlotte.”

Miller completed a Ph.D. and Master of Music Education from Florida State University; his bachelor’s degree is from Florida Southern College.
