Elizabeth Riddell, a sophomore in the Department of Software and Information Systems in the College of Computing and Informatics, received the Best Essay Award in the annual UNC Charlotte Excellence in First-year Writing Competition for the research paper “Synethesia-identity of 60 Senses.”

Riddell, who was unaware of the competition until her essay was nominated by her professor, said, “To have my research paper chosen as the Best Essay is an incredible honor.  I am excited to represent the College of Computing and Informatics and share my essay with the University."

Each year, the Department of English gives out three awards to celebrate excellence in first-year writing.

Riddell’s focus area in CCI is privacy and security.
