Staff Council election results released
Jim Kay, Penny Stevens, Shannon Homesley and Lyndee Champion-Ivey were elected executive officers on the UNC Charlotte Staff Council.
Kay, Stevens and Homesley will serve two-year terms as chair, vice chair and secretary, respectively; Champion-Ivey was elected communications officer, a one-year position. In the past, some executive officers were elected to a one-year term; however, earlier this year, Chancellor Philip L. Dubois approved a change to the council bylaws to allow for two-year terms for chair and vice chair, as well as alter the office titles. The council enacted the changes effective with the 2014-15 fiscal year (FY).
A maintenance supervisor in the Student Union, Kay was Staff Council president for FY 2013-14. Previously, he served as a representative and alternate for Area 17 and 15A.
Stevens, an operations/systems analyst in the Information Technology Services Department, served as council vice president in 2013-14 and secretary from 2010-12; she also represented Area 4.
Currently administrative assistant to the controller, Homesley continues as Staff Council secretary. In the past, she served as a representative and alternate for Area 9.
Champion-Ivey, office manager and executive assistant in the Division for Academic Affairs, had served as an alternate representative for Area 1 since 2009 before winning a position on the executive board.
The Staff Council was established to create and provide a more harmonious working environment for the staff of UNC Charlotte. It has been delegated, by the chancellor, the authority and responsibility to bring to the attention of the administration matters of general staff concern and to take such actions as are necessary to enable it to meet those responsibilities.
