Presentation to address contemporary violence in China

As part of the seventh annual International Speaker Series, Furman University professor Katherine Kaup will explore contemporary violence in China’s minority regions and other themes from her recent book “Creating the Zhuang: Ethnic Politics in China,” during a talk at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, in the Atkins Library Halton Reading Room.

Kaup is the James B. Duke Professor of Asian Studies and Political Science. Previously, she was special adviser for minority nationalities affairs at the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, the director of the Riley Institute’s China Programs and principal investigator/program director for several federally funded programs for the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Asian Studies and the Environment.
