John Quiñones, anchor of ABC’s “What Would You Do?,” one of TV's highest-rated newsmagazines, will speak at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.
His presentation is for the Forty-niner Forum Speaker Series, sponsored by the Center for Leadership Development; it is free to all students, faculty and staff with a UNC Charlotte ID. This event is open to the general public, too.
Quiñones will shares his story, encouraging audiences to pursue their dreams regardless of barriers, work hard to achieve their goals and challenges them with the question, "What would you do to achieve your goals?"
“The Center for Leadership Development desires that our student leaders hold themselves accountable within the community in which they lead,” said Nadia Campbell, assistant director for the Center for Leadership Development. “We believe that John's visit to our campus will inspire our students to do so.”
During his 25-year tenure at ABC News, Quiñones has reported for all programs and served as anchor of "Primetime." He has won seven national Emmy Awards for his work on "Primetime Live," "Burning Questions" and "20/20.”
Quiñones joined ABC News in 1982 as a general assignment correspondent based in Miami, providing reports for "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" and other ABC News broadcasts.
Before joining ABC News, he was a reporter in Chicago. Quiñones won two Emmy Awards for his 1980 reporting on the plight of illegal immigrants from Mexico. From 1975 to 1978, he was news editor at a radio station in Houston.
