University’s Spring Career Fair expanding to two days

Wednesday, February 1, 2017

UNC Charlotte’s Spring Career and Internship Fair, much like the Queen City, is growing. For the first time, the Career Center will host a two-day event, Thursday and Friday, Feb. 16-17, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

“Traditionally, this has been our largest career fair on campus, and it continues to attract more and more interest from employers and graduate programs,” said Patrick Madsen, Career Center director. “For this year, we’ve decided to provide a focus for each day of the event. On Feb. 16, representatives from organizations devoted to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) will be on campus. The next day will be focused on all non-STEM opportunities, including business, arts, communications and service.”

UNC Charlotte students and alumni from all majors will be able to attend either or both days; the event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Feb. 16-17.

Currently, more than 250 registrants, representing corporations, nonprofits, government agencies and graduate programs, are scheduled to attend.

“Employer attendance at the spring fair has doubled in the last five years, and past fairs have had a waiting list of employers that couldn’t attend because of space limitations. This year’s two-day format gives organizations the opportunity for more targeted recruitment of talented UNC Charlotte students and alumni,” said Brooke Brown, the event coordinator. “Students and alumni benefit by having access to a growing number of opportunities for jobs, internships, co-ops and graduate programs. The in-person interactions that candidates have with employers at fairs goes a long way to set them apart from the competition.”

Students/alumni can RSVP for the event and select their top employers through Hire-A-Niner, the Career Center’s career management system. All candidates must wear professional attire.

Event sponsors Crown Castle and Schaeffler Group USA will be joined by Software Toolbox, Peace Corps, State Department, Blumenthal Performing Arts, BMW Manufacturing, Fidelity Investments, Continental, Delhaize America, Duke Energy, Mondelez International, Greensboro Fire and Police Departments, IBM, WBTV and many others. The full list of registered organizations is online.

The Career Center can assist students/alumni to prepare for the event through in-person resume reviews (10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, in Atkins Library, Room 150), online resources, individual appointments and a Career Fair Crash Course.
