UNC Charlotte art student William Lee won a public art commission from the city of Charlotte “GovPorch” project to create an interactive installation at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center Plaza on Fourth Street.
Lee’s installation, “Resonances,” is made of wood, steel cable and electrical metallic tubing and is inspired by Gandhi’s concept of communal harmony and by the metaphor of the individual voice within a larger choir. Associate Professor of Art Marek Ranis served as Lee’s mentor on the project.
A junior from Charlotte, Lee is pursuing a double major in painting and finance with a minor in art history. “Resonances” will be displayed until Friday, June 30.
GovPorch is an effort to reimagine the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center Plaza as a place for people of all ages and abilities to spend time and exercise their active minds, bodies and souls with playful interventions. It will be open through mid-June 2017.
