University participating in bonus leave payouts
The North Carolina General Assembly again has provided a special provision in the current fiscal year’s budget legislation that gives state agencies, including the UNC system, the choice to offer eligible employees the opportunity to cash in a portion of bonus leave previously awarded by the General Assembly.
UNC Charlotte has chosen to participate in this program by allowing eligible employees to cash in up to 20 hours of bonus leave for a one-time payment to be included in their Nov. 30, 2017, paychecks.
Leave-earning employees are able to participate if they were awarded bonus leave by the General Assembly between September 2002 and September 2014 and have unused hours. The leave is listed as BONREG in Kronos, the University’s timekeeping system.
Only bonus leave qualifies for the cash-in option. It does not apply to vacation, sick, community service or compensatory time. It also does not include the special bonus leave (labeled BONSPL in Kronos) awarded in August 2017, retroactive to July 1.
All eligible employees will receive a more detailed email from Human Resources on Wednesday, Oct. 11, which will contain instructions on how to submit a request for payout.
