Veteran Atkins Library employee Robin Drake has died
Robin Drake, 60, died Nov. 6 at the Brian Center of Concord. A longtime member of the Atkins Library staff, Drake joined UNC Charlotte in 1979.
During her career, Drake worked in several units, including Cataloging, Acquisitions, Circulation, Technical Services and most recently Special Collections and University Archives.
Joseph Nicholson, associate professor and metadata librarian, noted that “Robin was a renowned joke teller, wit and raconteuse who had a keen eye for the absurd. She had a rich fund of anecdotes and stories that she would deliver with her characteristic chuckle, and she was active in the Episcopal Church. Robin tended to keep a low profile at Atkins, but she was known by everyone in the building for her down-to-earth friendliness, sly humor and readiness to laugh. She will be deeply missed.”
A memorial service to remember and celebrate Drake’s life is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, at Jackson Park UMC. Click here to read her obituary published by the Independent Tribune.
