University Convocation to begin new academic year
University Convocation, the annual event that marks the beginning of a new academic year, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. During Convocation, the campus community will learn more about the University’s major long-term goals and issues that may affect employees and the student body.
Preceding University Convocation, there will be a reception for the campus community at 8:30 a.m. in the Lucas Room.
Convocation speakers will include the presidents of the Staff Council and the student body. The faculty president will present the faculty agenda for 2019-20, and there will be remarks from Chancellor Philip L. Dubois and Provost Joan Lorden.
Also, new members of the faculty and professional staff will be welcomed, and there will be recognition of faculty members granted permanent tenure and those who have been promoted to full professor as well as those who will be starting their 25th year of service to the University.
Following University Convocation, there will be a question-and-answer session/general faculty meeting.
