UNC Charlotte administrative offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 24, through Tuesday, Jan. 1, for winter break. The University will resume normal operations Wednesday, Jan. 2.
The first day of classes for the 2013 spring semester is Wednesday, Jan. 9.
UNC Charlotte’s Student Health Center is participating in two surveillance programs designed to gather health-related data in efforts to keep the campus community well.

Built to house the University’s earth and life sciences programs, the McEniry Building is named for UNC Charlotte’s first vice chancellor for academic affairs, William Hugh McEniry. A handwritten note from Chancellor Phil Dubois was a source of inspiration for Hannah Martin, a paralyzed student who graduated with honors Saturday.
In July 2007, Martin was severely injured in a car accident prior to starting her freshman year at UNC Charlotte. The accident left the aspiring dancer paralyzed from the neck down.
Commencements in 2012 have been opportunities to celebrate milestones. In May, the University honored its 100,000th alumnus. In December, UNC Charlotte’s 49er Finish Program shepherded its 500th participant into the ranks of those who have completed their undergraduate degree.
Recently, UNC Charlotte dedicated a bronze sculpture depicting Irwin “Ike” Belk, one of Charlotte’s most prominent leaders and a historic figure in the life of the University.

North Carolina will have its fourth year of slow but uninterrupted economic growth in 2013, UNC Charlotte economist John Connaughton reported in his quarterly forecast for the state.
