Associate professor Joanne Robinson from the Religious Studies Department in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is the 2012 recipient of the highest teaching honor bestowed by UNC Charlotte, the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence.

The campus community at UNC Charlotte is honoring the life of chancellor emeritus E.K. Fretwell Jr., who died Oct. 18 at the Stewart Health Center of the Cypress. He was 88.
The exhibit “Torqued and Twisted: Bentwood Today,” which opens on Monday, Oct. 29, in the Storrs Gallery, explores the work of nine internationally known furniture makers and sculptors who use the technique of bending wood in innovative, unusual or eloquent ways.

The College of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership will host its inaugural Distinguished Speaker Series at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Cone University Center Lucas Room, as Bill Harrison, N.C. State Board of Education chair, will deliver the keynote address “A Vision for Public Education in North Carolina.”
