Jasmin Bambur ’03 is no stranger to Paralympic competition. The sitting alpine skier and proud UNC Charlotte alum competed at the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing, China, marking his fourth Paralympics.

Competing in the Slalom and Giant Slalom events, Bambur made Niner Nation proud finishing eighth and 16th, respectively.

10 facts about Paralympian jasmin Bambur

  1. Bambur was born in Bosnia in 1979 but fled the country due to war, settling in Serbia. He received U.S. citizenship in 2010.
  2. He was injured in a car accident in 2000 leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.
  3. He learned wheelchair tennis and basketball, along with waterskiing, before he picked up skiing.
  4. Bambur graduated from UNC Charlotte in 2003 with a degree in international business. His wife, Sarah Friedrich Bambur '04, is also an alum.
  5. They manage a business together, u-Med, a company that distributes medical supplies to people with disabilities.
  6. They have three daughters: Lejla, Maja and Adely – all are skiers.
  7. Bambur made his Paralympic debut at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympic Winter Games, competing for his home country of Serbia. He was the first-ever winter Paralympian in Serbian history.
  8. In 2012, he was named a member of the U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing National Team. He’s competed for Team USA since then, including Sochi in 2014, PyeongChang in 2018 and now Beijing.
  9. In Beijing, Bambur competed in the Slalom and Giant Slalom. In the past, he’s competed in the Downhill, Super-G and Super Combined events.
  10. His best finish was a seventh place in the Super-G at the 2014 Sochi Games.
