The Golden Owl Tavern

Golden Owl Tavern is University City’s latest gem and new Executive Chef Andres Prussing is bringing some serious heat. Born and bred in Santiago, Chile, he’s a master at crafting Southern American classics with a clever culinary twist – think deviled eggs with Nashville hot chicken, fried green tomatoes with ghost pepper aioli and buttermilk fried chicken thighs with peach chili chutney.

The Details

  • Golden Owl Tavern, one of Charlotte’s hottest restaurants, is located in UNC Charlotte’s impressive Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.
  • The restaurant’s moniker is a nod to the University’s first football team The Owls – named for the fact all classes were held in the evening when it first opened in 1946.
  • The restaurant recently expanded its hours and menu offerings including the Niner Burger, Shrimp and Grits, and Deep South Benedict.
  • Chef Prussing has partnered with non-profit 100 Gardens, using fresh aquaponic ingredients grown and harvested by Charlotte-Mecklenburg students.

We recently had the opportunity to meet Chef Prussing and sample the new menu. Check out our favorites below.
