UNC Charlotte’s online graduate programs received national recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 Online Master’s Programs rankings, which were released Tuesday, Jan. 24.

Three master’s disciplines received U.S. News rankings, including top 50 recognition for education and nursing. Here’s a look at the new graduate program rankings.

Best Online Master’s in Education

The Cato College of Education again ranked No. 1 among master’s in education programs in North Carolina and No. 23 (tie) overall in U.S. News’ Best Online Master’s in Education ranking. The ranking includes data from 13 Charlotte Online master’s programs or specializations.

In addition, the college was recognized for the master’s in curriculum and instruction, which ranked No. 17 (tie) in the Best Curriculum and Instructional Design specialty ranking, which is based on a survey of peer institutions across the country.

Best Online Master’s in Nursing

Online master’s programs in the School of Nursing ranked No. 37 (tie), rising 31 spots from 2022 in the Best Online Master’s in Nursing category.

This includes three programs: MSN in Community/Public Health Nursing, MSN in Nurse Educator and MSN in Nurse Administrator

Best Online Master’s in Engineering

The William States Lee College of Engineering rose eight spots from 2022 to No. 62 (tie) in the Best Online Master’s in Engineering category. The college offers an online Master of Science in Engineering Management.

UNC Charlotte also received its highest ranking — No. 4 in the nation and top in North Carolina — in U.S. News’ Best Online Bachelor’s Degrees category

Charlotte Online, through the School of Professional Studies, offers a growing number of online degree programs, including a fully online MBA program that debuted in August and a Master of Science in Mathematics, Math Education concentration that debuted this month.

U.S. News evaluated more than 1,800 online bachelor's and master's degree programs for the rankings, the most ever.

According to the publication, while the methodologies are different for each discipline, they all incorporate metrics specific to online learning. Only degree-granting programs that are offered primarily online by regionally accredited institutions are eligible.

This is the latest in a growing number of national rankings for UNC Charlotte, including a No. 18 ranking in Newsweek’s student-focused “America’s Top Online Colleges for 2023,” which evaluated graduate and undergraduate programs.
