Steve Donai, a representative from Heroes in Recovery, recently presented a $2,500 check to support the University’s Collegiate Recovery Community. The funding was generated through proceeds from the inaugural Heroes in Recovery 6K trail race/walk held in June in Reedy Creek Park.
The top three student poster presenters were selected at the third annual Summer Research Symposium, the culminating event for the Charlotte Research Scholars program. More than 80 undergraduate students competed in the poster presentation on scholarly topics across a number of disciplines.
The winners were Jenna Brown, Nadia Clifton and Hunter Reavis.
The nation’s top educational facilities organization, APPA, recently presented its 2014 Award for Excellence in Facilities Management to UNC Charlotte at its meeting in San Diego, Calif. Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor, facilities management, accepted the honor on behalf of the University.

School Tools is a drive to collect and distribute school supplies to children who need them. All supplies collected will be distributed through Classroom Central, a free store for teachers and Communities in Schools site coordinators.
Staff Council officers Jim Kay and Penny Stevens recently honored Elizabeth Mace for her years of volunteer service as the council’s webmaster.
Mace, a post-award specialist in the College of Health and Human Services, was nominated for the role in 2009 when budgetary restrictions eliminated funding for the work-study student who maintained the council website.
