UNC Charlotte’s post-master’s certificate in university and college teaching, first offered in 2017, is designed to prepare graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, current faculty and others with the skills needed for the full range of faculty responsibilities at a range of institutions of higher education.

Ventureprise at UNC Charlotte is hosting seven international entrepreneur professional fellows as part of the U.S. Department of State’s 2018 Young Transatlantic Innovative Leaders Initiative (YTILI).

The program, implemented by the German Marshall Fund, selected Charlotte, Seattle Boston, Austin, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Denver, New Orleans and Washington, D.C., to serve as host cities. 

Krystal Turner, a graduate assistant in the Graduate School, recently participated in the annual conference of the Association of Play Therapy (APT) in Phoenix where she helped promote graduate education at UNC Charlotte and presented the research project “Child/Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) for Adoptive Families: Parents’ Lived Experiences.”

Nominations for the prestigious Harshini V. de Silva Graduate Mentor Award and First Citizens Bank Scholars Medal are being accepted through Nov. 2 and Nov. 9, respectively.

The First Citizen’s award recognizes outstanding scholarship, creativity and/or research. The de Silva award recognizes an outstanding faculty member who also is an outstanding mentor. Nominations for the de Silva award come from departmental chairs; nominations for the First Citizens Bank award may come from any UNC Charlotte faculty member.

UNC Charlotte faculty, staff and students are invited to listen and share during campus discussions about the legacy of segregation in Charlotte on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

UNC Charlotte welcomes new students to campus virtually every semester, and a significant number of them are transfer students.

This year, the University Transfer Center is partnering with other campus units to offer special programs as part of the campus observance of National Transfer Student Week.

Faculty and staff members can join colleagues for socializing and networking at a Faculty and Staff Social, which will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts.

A highlight of commencement is the recognition of individuals for exceptional and distinctive service to the University or the greater community through the awarding of an honorary degree from UNC Charlotte. The Nominations, Honors and Awards Committee is seeking assistance in nominating persons for this honor.

Researchers at UNC Charlotte have been awarded funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Smart and Connected Communities program to co-develop technology to support public safety. The $1.9 million, four-year grant will develop an optical sensing platform that uses artificial intelligence to detect and prevent street crime without the use of profiling.

The selection committee for the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence and the new UNC Charlotte Award for Teaching Excellence is accepting nominations through Thursday, Nov. 15. These awards are two of the most important and prestigious awards at UNC Charlotte as they honor outstanding professors and provide an example of the University’s commitment to excellence in teaching.

The strongest nominations include specific examples from students; just submit a nomination and the professor will be considered for the award for which they are eligible.
