Retiring faculty honored for 357 combined years of service
Thirteen faculty members whose combined service to the University totaled 357 years were honored at an annual event Wednesday, May 3, at the Harris Alumni Center. University leaders noted that each of the retirees had been active participants in the many changes and milestones in the life of the University.
Chancellor Philip L. Dubois presided over the program, offering remembrances of each retiree. Additionally, he noted the University’s recent 70th anniversary and recognized that a few retirees with more than 35 years of service helped to write half of the University’s story.
Reminder about commencement parking
To accommodate expected parking demand for the Commencement ceremony at 1 p.m., Friday May 12, the following parking areas will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday, May 11, through 2 p.m., Friday, May 12:
Camo Classic to highlight veterans on campus
The Veteran Services Office and the Dean of Students Office will host the 2017 Camo Classic, an annual competition to highlight veterans across campus.
At the classic, scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, April, it will be veteran students versus cadets from the University’s Army and Air Force ROTC in a series of team and individual competitions, including tug-of-war, timed relays, a scavenger hunt, a fire-starting competition and a pie-eating contest at the Cato Plaza. (Note, the date is a change from previous reports.)
Register for UNC Charlotte’s Housing Affordability Symposium
UNC Charlotte Campus Compact will host a conversation about housing affordability in the Charlotte area on Wednesday, April 5, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
The Housing Affordability Symposium will bring together researchers; community leaders/organizers; residents and students from Charlotte’s schools, colleges and universities; local government; and community-based organizations; to address housing affordability in the city.
Annual Undergraduate Research Conference scheduled for April 21
Registration is now open for UNC Charlotte’s Undergraduate Research Conference (URC), a University-wide showcase of undergraduate research projects.
Sponsored by Academic Affairs, Atkins Library, the Charlotte Research Institute, Honors College, and Levine Scholars Program, the conference will be Friday, April 21, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. Colleges and departments across the University also provide conference support. This event will be open to the campus community and to invited guests.
Nominees accepted for University’s International Women’s Day observance, Turkish filmmaker to keynote
UNC Charlotte will hold its 12th annual campus recognition of International Women’s Day from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, in the Student Union, Room 340.

UNC Charlotte switching ‘clicker’ vendors
Starting with the 2017-18 academic year, the University will begin to use Poll Everywhere software for classes that use a student response system, previously known as clickers.
