The exponential growth in the University’s distance education offerings and enrollment necessitated creating a larger testing center.

The Distance Education Testing Center recently moved to the Barnard Building with space to accommodate 23 students with individual testing carrels.

The website WalletHub ranked Charlotte 21st among the nation’s top college cities that promise the best combination of academic, social and economic opportunities for students.

The rankings were based on 23 key metrics such as the quality of higher education, crime rates and cost of living, according to the website. Charlotte ranked No. 21 in the category that rated cities with more than 300,000 residents.

“The American Workday” is a publication that presents a modern portrait of the nation’s economy, as painted by the workers who keep it moving.  Its publication is a result of efforts by UNC Charlotte alumnus Austin Halbert.

A Levine Scholar, Halbert graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in management (organizational management concentration) with a minor in economics. “The American Workday” was funded through a grant from the Levine Scholars Program, which enabled Halbert and fellow scholars Laura Outlaw and Vrushab Gowda to complete the work.

The Office of Extended Academic Programs offers individuals the opportunity to pursue an online master’s degree or graduate certificate in instructional systems technology.

Technology is transforming the landscape of teaching and learning; the online learning and teaching concentration in instructional systems technology prepares professionals to design, develop and manage online learning systems.

The entire campus community will soon notice improved Wi-Fi connectivity as a result of the University’s new wireless vendor, Aruba Networks and the company’s new “Wave 2” access point technology.

Mike Carlin, vice chancellor for information technology and CIO for the University, along with other ITS leaders, carefully vetted different wireless solutions to select the most appropriate option for the state’s urban research institution.

Nearly 3,550 undergraduate and graduate students will receive degrees during commencement exercises on Saturday, Dec. 19.

These graduates will swell the ranks of UNC Charlotte alumni, and they will have an impact in the greater Charlotte community and across the nation, said Jenny Jones, executive director of alumni affairs.

Students interested in applying for UNC Charlotte scholarships now have an easier way.

The new NinerScholars Portal enables students to apply for more than 500 scholarship opportunities offered by colleges, departments, programs and offices at the University with one application and through one online system.

Often nontraditional students face challenges beyond those of college-aged students as they begin or return to college. Scholarships are one way to overcome the financial barrier, and 2015 was a record-setting year for the Office of Adult Students and Evening Services.

For 2015-16, OASES awarded nearly $150,000 in scholarships to 78 students. The recipients and donors recently attended a luncheon to celebrate this milestone.

International Education Week, Nov. 16-20, is an opportunity to showcase global activities at UNC Charlotte through a series of events. A highlight of this observance is a screening and discussion of the documentary “The Dialogue” with director Arnd Wächter at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the Student Union Theater.

The University’s 49er Finish Program recently was named a 2015 Model of Excellence in the winter edition of University Business magazine.

“UNC Charlotte created a concierge service that caters to a tough demographic: students who dropped out during their senior year,” said University Business senior editor Tim Goral. “The program’s communications are tailored to individual former students, finding unique solutions for a pervasive problem, one person at a time.”
