America’s middle class is suffering an economic meltdown that threatens the sector of society long considered the nation’s bedrock. UNC Charlotte author and researcher Scott Fitzgerald will dissect these troubles and explore ways to regain prosperity, in the first talk of UNC Charlotte’s Personally Speaking series for 2014-15.
This free community talk is set for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, at UNC Charlotte Center City. The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Atkins Library present this series, which is marking its fifth season.

Tuesday, April 1, is the deadline for submissions for the Undergraduate Research Conference, scheduled for Friday, April 25, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

In its third year, the Undergraduate Research Conference showcases projects being completed by undergraduates from all levels and from all colleges/departments. The Office of Academic Affairs, Atkins Library and new this year, the Levine Scholars Program, are cosponsoring this event.

The J. Murrey Atkins Library will hold a symposium on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 4-5, to promote the tenets of the Open Access (OA) movement in the publishing of scientific and scholarly literature.

Open Access is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles, coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment. The international OA movement aims to create a more open system of scholarly communication by reducing barriers to the access, sharing and use of scholarship.

International Open Access Week is Monday, Oct. 21, through Sunday, Oct. 27, and the J. Murrey Atkins Library will hold a number of public events to promote the open access movement in the publishing of scientific and scholarly literature.

The J. Murrey Atkins Library will host its Undergraduate Research Conference on Friday, April 19. This conference is a University-wide showcase of research projects being completed by undergraduates from all levels and from all colleges/departments at UNC Charlotte. The deadline for undergraduates to enter the competition is Monday, April 1.

Atkins Library, the third building to be constructed on the UNC Charlotte campus, is named for J.
