Mary Lou Maher, professor of software and information systems in the College of Computing and Informatics, has received the 2023 Harrold and Notkin Research and Graduate Mentoring Award from the National Center for Women and Information Technology.

UNC Charlotte’s PoleVolt, the innovative solution that uses existing streetlights to provide curbside electric vehicle charging, has added another accolade. It recently received the Clean Cities/Clean Fuels Coalition Award from the Centralina Regional Council.

UNC Charlotte’s young alumni are making advances in their fields and communities. Ten outstanding alumni were recognized at the fifth annual 10 Under Ten Awards ceremony sponsored by the UNC Charlotte Young Alumni Chapter.

A highlight of commencement is the recognition of individuals for exceptional and distinctive service to the University or the greater community through the awarding of an honorary degree from UNC Charlotte. As a recipient of a DeJoy-Woś Family Foundation Scholarship, Elizabeth Smith spent her summer in Washington, D.C., taking classes and interning at the American Legion, as part of the Fund for American Studies. 

She was one of nine scholarship recipients, hailing from colleges and universities in North Carolina and Estonia that received full tuition and housing to attend the program. Smith, a first-generation college student, took an economics class and a public policy class at George Mason University.

Creating supportive learning environments that enable students to succeed is a hallmark of Charlotte faculty members, and this year’s nominees for the University’s teaching excellence awards exemplify that commitment.
