Woes of possible recession persist
The United States likely won’t see a recession this year, but continued interest hikes could send the economy into a recession in 2023, according to John Connaughton, director of the North Carolina Economic Forecast.
Accounting student organization named Southeast Chapter of the Year
UNC Charlotte’s National Association of Black Accountants chapter was named the 2022 Southeast Chapter of the Year. More than 130 chapters are based in the Southeast region.
Accounting student Clarence Newman, president of UNC Charlotte’s NABA chapter, said the recognition follows years of work to help members build their careers in business and connect with recruiters.
“One of the biggest achievements for our chapter was getting 100% of our graduating seniors jobs at top companies, such as Deloitte, Dell and Bank of America,” he said.
Vandervelde named director of Turner School of Accountancy
Scott D. Vandervelde, Ph.D., has joined UNC Charlotte as director of the Turner School of Accountancy in the Belk College of Business.
Vandervelde, who was an academic coordinator and professor in the University of South Carolina’s Master of Accountancy Program for 20 years, began his duties July 1.

Research and publication on entrepreneurship by faculty members in UNC Charlotte’s Belk College of Business has led to the University’s designation among the top 10 institutions on Texas Christian University’s 2022 Global University Entrepreneurship Productivity Rankings.
