Nominations sought for 2019 Employees of the Year

The Human Resources Department is accepting nominations for the 2019 Staff Employee of the Year awards. Any permanent employee of UNC Charlotte can submit a nomination, and employees are encouraged to recommend colleagues for this honor.

Individuals can be nominated in any one of five categories:

Ekenedo needs shared leave

Courtnee Ekenedo, Parking and Transportation Services, needs shared leave donations. The Benefits Office will accept donations through Jan. 29.

To contribute leave, faculty and staff should refer to the requirements and participant forms in Personnel Information Memorandum (PIM) 29 or in the literature racks outside of the Benefits Office, King Building, Room 207. For more information, email Marina LeLeux, benefits counselor, at mleleux@uncc.edu.

2019 Learning and Organizational Development catalog available

From career and retirement planning to leadership development programs, the 2019 Learning and Organizational Development catalog has something for every employee.

This year’s catalog, open for review and registration, features more than 80 workshops and 150-plus individual sessions, available both in-person and online to UNC Charlotte faculty and staff.

Among the new highlights for this year are:

Knowing where to park just got easier

If the correct audio equipment was poised above campus on a weekday morning at 10:45 a.m., one might pick up a lot of whispers that sound like, “Please, please, please let me find a close parking spot.”

That’s a peak time for parking demand on campus, so it’s unlikely that the pleading chorus will break into songs of joy.

Outbound lane of Institute Circle to close temporarily

The outbound lane of Institute Circle will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 8-9, due to construction related to the new entrance sign.

Detour signs and barricades will be erected; outbound traffic will be detoured to J.W. Clay Boulevard.

Expect heavy equipment and construction personnel in the area. Exercise caution when approaching construction areas.

Orbis Grille offers customer-facing compost disposal

Orbis Grille, located in PORTAL, is helping the University reduce its landfill waste by offering a compost option for dine-in customers. It is the first dining facility on campus to offer a customer-facing compost option.

University appoints new associate vice chancellor for safety and security

John Bogdan, a retired U.S. Army colonel, has been named the new associate vice chancellor for safety and security at UNC Charlotte. He will assume his duties Jan. 2, 2019.

Part of Mary Alexander Road to close temporarily

Between Monday and Wednesday, Dec. 17-19, a portion of Mary Alexander Road will be closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrian traffic will remain on the east side of the roadway.

This closure is a safety measure related to the removal of the steam stack in preparation for construction to begin on the new science building.

Barricades will be erected at the intersections of Mary Alexander Road and Cameron Boulevard and Mary Alexander Road and Craver Road.

University welcomes new employees

UNC Charlotte welcomed the following new staff and faculty members during the Nov. 27 New Employee Orientation session:

Academic Affairs
Gloria Dowell, administrative support specialist

Building and Environmental Services
Jennifer Huffman, administrative support associate
Laetitia Ntoto, building environmental technician

College of Health and Human Services
Erin Hart, social/clinical research specialist

Temporary closure of Denny Building entrance/exit

The southwest stairwell entrance/exit facing the Garinger Building from the Denny Building will be closed Monday, Dec. 3, through Sunday, Jan. 6, for construction to remove the existing concrete walkway and install new brick pavers as part of the Academic Complex Renovation project.

Signage will be erected to direct pedestrians to the closest entrance/exit.

During this time, expect construction equipment and personnel under the breezeway. Exercise caution when approaching construction areas.
