Fire prevention is a year-round concern
October is fire prevention month, and as it draws to a close, UNC Charlotte’s Environmental Health and Safety Department and the National Fire Protection Association offer a reminder that a fire emergency can happen anywhere, anytime.
Follow these three basic steps to reduce the risk of a fire emergency and learn to escape safely in the event of one:
Family assistance center exercise to be held Oct. 25-26
UNC Charlotte will conduct a full-scale exercise of its family assistance center plan on Thursday, Oct. 25, and Friday, Oct. 26, at the Harris Alumni Center.
A family assistance center is a location where families can receive information and support services in the event of a severe emergency affecting members of the campus community.
During the exercise, emergency service vehicles from community agencies may be seen in the area.
Business stalls if employees slip, trip or fall
Slip, trip and fall incidents are among the leading cause of occupational injuries nationwide, but they are the leading cause of occupational injuries at UNC Charlotte. In 2017, 39 percent of occupational injuries on campus were the result of a slip, trip or fall. These seemingly minor incidents can lead to pain and serious discomfort. If an employee is out of work, it affects the productivity and efficiency of the corresponding campus unit or department.

CATS announced, Monday, Oct. 15, the light rail will operate on modified service for at least one more week while repairs are made to the overhead catenary system, which was damaged during Hurricane Michael last Thursday when a tree fell on it near 12th street.
