PPS employees honored at eighth annual awards ceremony

UNC Charlotte’s Police and Public Safety Department (PPS) recently honored outstanding employees during its annual awards ceremony, held in conjunction with National Police Week.

Det. Nicole Krysiak was recognized as Officer of the Year, following Officer of the Month honors twice in 2017-18. Jennifer Behre was named Civilian Employee of the Year. Behre serves the University as a part-time support services investigative technician, while also working for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department as a dispatch supervisor.

Environmental Health and Safety wins state accolades

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) recently received the North Carolina Department of Labor’s (NCDOL) Five Million Hour Award and First-year Gold Award. Theses honors were based on submitted efforts from 2017.

The Million Hour Safety Awards are distributed to organizations that achieve at least one million consecutive employee hours without injury or illness that may cause days off work. Each additional one million hours is accumulated into more prestigious recognition.

Reminder: Protecting minors at UNC Charlotte

In compliance with University Policy 716, UNC Charlotte requires all adults working with children under the age of 18 in University-offered programs to complete a background check and a “Minors on Campus” online training module, including a new video produced by the Office of Risk Management and Insurance.

University’s RecycleMania results show improvement

The 2018 RecycleMania competition results are in, and UNC Charlotte’s showing indicates improvement in sustainable practices across campus. More than 200 colleges and universities participated in this annual competition, which ran from Feb. 4 through March 31.

Verret appointed director of Treasury Services

Greg Verret is now director of Treasury Services in the Division of Business Affairs. He had served as interim director since July 2017.

FM’s Phil Jones receives Frank Turner Award

Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor for the Facilities Management Department, recently received the prestigious Frank B. Turner Award at the 37th annual State Construction Conference.

Tuition waiver process now online

The Human Resources Department, in partnership with ITS and other campus units, has launched a new, fully online workflow for the tuition waiver program. 

Eligible full-time, permanent faculty and staff members can take up to three free courses a year from any of the 17 schools within the UNC system. Courses can be to earn a degree or simply pursue intellectual interests.
