Recently, the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) updated its internal control standards, which form the backbone of internal control frameworks in organizations worldwide. North Carolina has adopted the COSO standards across all government agencies and universities, which has implications for all UNC Charlotte employees.

University competing in national recycling competition

UNC Charlotte is participating in Recyclemania, a national recycling competition and benchmarking tool. College and university programs use this event to promote waste reduction activities on their campuses.

During a 10-week period (Feb. 1 through April 4), schools report recycling and trash data; institutions are then ranked by the ones that collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, along with various other categories.

Pilot program to monitor electric vehicles, University to add 20 charging stations

UNC Charlotte is committed to becoming a regional model of sustainable stewardship, and toward that goal, the University recently earned two Clean Fuel Advanced Technology Project grants totaling $64,000. 

Campus, city responding to need for more bike paths, sidewalks

The University City area continues to grow with new apartments and retail centers, and UNC Charlotte, along with the city, is making plans to accommodate alternative ways to get around.

“As the University improves existing roads and builds new ones, we are adding lanes to our existing bike lane system,” said Peter Franz, the campus landscape architect. He added the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) has been a great partner in identifying the need for more bike lanes and sidewalks around the campus.

Tuition hike proposal on UNC Board of Governors February agenda

Rapidly increasing demand and several years of budget cuts are the key factors in a proposal to raise UNC Charlotte tuition for the next two fiscal years.

The UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees, this past fall, approved a plan to raise tuition for resident undergraduates by 3 percent for FYs 2015-16 and 2016-17. The current in-state, full-time tuition/general fee rate is $6,179 for fall and spring (FY 2014-15).

Leadership program scholarships available

Three scholarships, worth up to $8,200, are available for selected individuals to attend the highly regarded Leadership Development Program offered by the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro.

According to Gary Stinnett, associate vice chancellor for human resources, this is an excellent career-enhancing opportunity for well-deserving managers to attend an internationally recognized development program that will aid in their own personal development as well as help them to become more effective leaders.
