Morgan, Charlotte Chamber honored with University’s Distinguished Service Award
The Charlotte Chamber and its president and chief executive officer Bob Morgan are the 2015 recipients of the UNC Charlotte Distinguished Service Award, presented formally during a luncheon in the Student Union, May 27.
In honoring the nonprofit organization and its leader, UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois said the Chamber’s mission aligns with the objectives of North Carolina’s urban research university.
For example, he said, the leaders of both institutions are focused on economic and workforce development and community outreach.
CATS light rail extension coming to campus
UNC Public TV’s “North Carolina Now” recently aired a UNC Charlotte-produced segment about the city’s light rail extension onto campus. A completion date for the extension project is 2017.
ACCEHW sponsoring ‘Walking Wednesdays’ in May

May is Internal Audit Awareness Month
Internal auditing is an important aspect of organizational governance, internal control and effective risk management at virtually any enterprise. Each May, the Institute of Internal Auditors promotes the profession of internal auditing. Professionals in the field of auditing work to raise awareness of internal auditing and its value, not only in May but throughout the year.
Tom York, director of internal audit for the University, stated the role of internal auditors is misperceived with audit professionals viewed as fault-finders, blame-layers or bureaucrats.
Cone University Center’s Dawkins wins chili cook-off
Tracy Dawkins’ spicy chili topped the field in the 2015 Staff Council Chili/Chowder Cook-off held recently in the Cone University Center.
Broome honored by N.C. Bar Association
David Broome, UNC Charlotte vice chancellor and general counsel, has received the Ann L. Majestic Distinguished Service Award, given by the N.C. Bar Association’s Education Law Section. He was presented the honor during a ceremony Friday, April 24, in Cary.
Decker appointed to UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees; Price, Jamil and Schulte reappointed
Former North Carolina Secretary of Commerce Sharon Allred Decker will join UNC Charlotte’s leadership as a new member of the Board of Trustees.
The UNC Board of Governors appointed Decker to a four-year term beginning July 1. The board also reappointed current trustees Joe Price, Dhiaa Jamil and Laura Schulte, each to their second, full four-year term.
