Faculty members can register to attend a brown bag discussion with Philip Clifford at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18, in the Center for Graduate Life (Cone University Center, Room 208).

More than 100 undergraduate student research projects will be featured at this year’s Charlotte Research Scholars Summer Symposium, scheduled for 9 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.

A team of four UNC Charlotte students was recognized with the People’s Choice Award in the 2016 Teradata University Network (TUN) Data Challenge, an international data analytics competition.

Laxmi Narayana Atluri, Sri Harsha Degala, Vrushali Sawant and Freddy Cabrera, all graduate students in data science and business analytics, demonstrated their findings at the 2016 Teradata PARTNERS Conference and Expo, and won the support of 3,500 of the world’s most advanced data and analytics experts and business leaders.

Two UNC Charlotte students recently represented the University at North Carolina’s Graduate Education Day, which was held at the N.C. General Assembly in Raleigh.

Marcus Lawrence, a doctoral student in biology, and Alexandra Hurst, a master’s student in chemistry, joined other graduate students from across the state at this event, which provides a platform for them to showcase their research and its impact on the state of North Carolina. Legislators met with students and faculty members to learn more about various research being conducted at North Carolina universities.

UNC Charlotte’s Graduate School and the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) are entering the fourth round of funding for University and São Paulo-based researchers through the joint initiative known as the SPRINT Program.

The Graduate School will conduct an application information session from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, May 25, in Cato Hall, Room 228, for University employees who hold a baccalaureate degree and wish to pursue a graduate education.

Britney Phippen, a Ph.D. student in biological sciences, and Rahul Upadhyay, who is pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, are the 2015-16 recipients of the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards presented by the Graduate School and the Center for Graduate Life.

Winners of the 16th annual Graduate Research Symposium were named at the event, held earlier this month in the J. Murrey Atkins Library.

Two researchers from Brazil are working with Daniel Janies, the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor of Bioinformatics and Genomics, to better understand the genes that allow amphibians to generate and resist the poisons they use for defense.

College of Education professor Chance Lewis is the 2016 recipient of the Harshini V. de Silva Award. This annual honor is presented to a faculty member who best exemplifies the commitment de Silva, a former UNC Charlotte professor, displayed to graduate student mentorship.

The Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor of Urban Education and executive director of the Urban Education Collaborative, Lewis began his tenure at UNC Charlotte in 2011. Since then, colleagues consistently have noted his impact on the student experience.
