University’s Veterans Day observance to feature concert, military appreciation game and more

The UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble, joined by the University Chorale and the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band, will present “For Heroes Proved: A Veterans Day Concert” at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, at Ovens Auditorium.

The Multicultural Resource Center, Religious and Spiritual Life, Latinx Student Services and Student Advising for Freshman Excellence (S.A.F.E.) have merged to become the Office of Identity, Equity and Engagement. The name reflects the office’s goal to create opportunities for education, development and engagement for students, while keeping in mind their various intersecting identities.

Sports, politics and activism collide in ‘An Evening with Jemele Hill’

Nationally known sports journalist and activist Jemele Hill will speak at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340, as a part of the Forty-Niner Forum Speaker Series.

Faculty/staff invited to open house for High Team Challenge course

The Chancellor’s Health and Wellness Committee and Venture Outdoor Leadership are partnering to provide faculty and staff members the chance to experience the High Team Challenge course (HTC) for free between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27.

OUTSpoken to present ‘The Year We Thought About Love’

A screening of the film “The Year We Thought about Love” is set for 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall; it is being shown as part of the University’s annual OUTSpoken event.

UNC Charlotte helping with Hurricane Florence relief efforts

From the loss of lives to the loss of property, Hurricane Florence has devastated the Carolinas. It will not be easy for storm victims in North and South Carolina to rebuild their lives, and they will deal with the hurricane’s effects for some time.

UNC Charlotte is organizing various collection drives to assist those impacted by the storm.

Call for commencement speakers, bell ringers

The Dean of Students Office is seeking student speakers and bell ringers for UNC Charlotte’s Fall Commencement ceremonies (Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14-15). Faculty and staff are requested to encourage students graduating in December to apply for one of these prestigious honors.
