Hauser Alumni Pavilion dedicated

UNC Charlotte leaders, alumni and friends of the University gathered beneath the newly constructed Hauser Alumni Pavilion for a formal ceremony to dedicate the facility prior to the Charlotte 49ers football game against the Florida Atlantic Owls Sept. 26.

The pavilion resulted from a significant gift commitment from longtime UNC Charlotte supporters Nancy and David Hauser.

Business student to make NASCAR XFINITY debut sporting University logos, colors

UNC Charlotte student Matt Tifft will make his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Kentucky Speedway driving the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry. The car will be bedecked in UNC Charlotte logos and colors.

The 19-year-old business management major from Hinckley, Ohio, currently runs a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for Kyle Busch Motorsports. He also competes in a limited amount of ARCA Series events throughout the year.

Childress Klein gives $2.5 million to UNC Charlotte’s Center for Real Estate

Childress Klein is donating $2.5 million to UNC Charlotte’s Center for Real Estate, which is being named the Childress Klein Center for Real Estate. The gift will fund a new endowed professorship, master’s student professional training programs and faculty fellowships related to research on real estate and urban economics topics. With an expected match from the State of North Carolina for the professorship, the total impact of the gift will be $3.2 million.

Formal dedication of Hauser Alumni Pavilion set for Saturday

Following a significant gift commitment from alumni and longtime UNC Charlotte supporters Nancy and David Hauser, a striking new campus facility for football tailgating and other events makes its debut this fall.

Construction on the Hauser Alumni Pavilion was completed in early September. The 8,000-square-foot brick-and-steel structure has enough space to accommodate 700 people.

The Hauser Alumni Pavilion will be dedicated officially on Saturday, Sept. 26, prior to the Charlotte 49ers football game against the Florida Atlantic Owls at Jerry Richardson Stadium.

2015 Giving Green Campaign focus of Sept. 24 ‘Live Wire’

Malin Pereira, executive director of the Honors College and Giving Green co-chair, and Zachary Tarlton, Giving Green champion, will be the guests on the Sept.24 edition of “The Live Wire,” Inside UNC Charlotte’s streaming webcast. Starting at 2 p.m., they will discuss the 2015 Giving Green Campaign and how faculty, staff alumni and students work to strengthen the community in many ways, including giving of their time and talents to a wide variety of nonprofit organizations and causes.

National writers Bernstein, O’Rourke to talk White House politics

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the White House,” featuring noted journalist Carl Bernstein and political satirist P.J. O’Rourke, will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.

In this free presentation for the campus community, the two writers will offer their perspectives on government, politics and the inner-workings of Washington, D.C.

Mount Zion dig to be featured on ‘N.C. Now’

UNC Charlotte’s archaeological dig at Mount Zion in Jerusalem continues to make national and international news. Learn more about what is being found and the historical implications during the Aug. 18 broadcast of “North Carolina Now” on UNC Public TV. The program airs at 7:30 p.m.

School supplies drive under way

UNC Charlotte is joining University City Connect for its inaugural school supplies donation drive to benefit the schools that comprise Governor’s Village.

From Monday, Aug. 10, through Friday, Aug. 21, faculty, staff and students are encouraged to donate school items for students in the four Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that make up Governor’s Village: John M. Morehead STEM Academy, Nathaniel Alexander Elementary, James Martin Middle and Zebulon B. Vance High. These schools are located less than five miles from the University.

‘N.C. Now’ to feature segment on MAX

The UNC-TV program “N.C. Now” will broadcast a segment on the University’s Mobile Arts & Community Experience (MAX) facility as part of its June 19 show, which airs at 7:30 p.m.

The UNC Charlotte Office of University Communications produced the video feature in conjunction with UNC-TV.

MAX is a mobile performance venue/community gathering space that can accommodate everything from circus arts to a neighborhood association meeting; it was built by Boxman Studios and funded through a grant from the Knight Foundation.

Reception provided alumni opportunities to reconnect to University

Bank of America is a major employer in the Charlotte region, and a large number of UNC Charlotte graduates work for the global financial services leader.

Recently, the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association held a reception for Bank of America employees who are University alums. Nearly 200 attended the event where Chancellor Philip L. Dubois provided them with an update on their alma mater, and how the University and Bank of America have forged a beneficial, long-term relationship.
