Tryon Street entrance dedicated in honor of Peggy and Joe Popp

UNC Charlotte’s entrance to campus off N. Tryon Street is now known as Popp Gate. The Institute Circle egress, which underwent enhancements to mirror Dickson Gate, the University’s main entrance off University City Boulevard, was dedicated Saturday, Nov. 23, in honor of Peggy and Coach Joe Popp, the parents of Karen Popp ’80, a longtime University supporter.

Scholarship to honor trailblazing professor

Theresa Perez, professor emerita, Department of Middle, Secondary and K-12 Education, lived her life as a champion for social justice. At UNC Charlotte, Perez displayed a spirit that nurtured and developed the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) program. She knew it would be an important factor in improving the lives of immigrant families in the community.

Exhibition game benefits April 30 Remembrance Fund, 2020 community concert announced

On Friday, Oct. 25, several thousand fans packed Halton arena as the Charlotte 49ers hosted the Georgia Bulldogs in a benefit exhibition basketball game. Proceeds from the game went to the April 30th Remembrance Fund.

Faculty and Staff Social scheduled

Faculty and staff members can join colleagues for socializing and networking at a Faculty and Staff Social, which will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Harris Alumni Center at Johnson Glen.Sponsored by Chancellor Philip L. Dubois, the social will feature light hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and soft drinks. RSVPs requested.
