Hamby, Hudson to attend select international security and intelligence program

UNC Charlotte’s Jim Hamby and Rick Hudson are among 30 intelligence professionals selected worldwide to attend the prestigious Cambridge Security Initiative International Security and Intelligence Professional Program, scheduled for March 30 through April 12 at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, England.

Hamby, an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, brings a wealth of experience to his teaching in intelligence analysis and intelligence studies. In addition to his role with UNC Charlotte’s Peace and Conflict Innovations Lab, he is a retired U.S. Army colonel and former senior official with the Defense Intelligence Agency and National Intelligence Service, where he served extensively in Joint Special Operations and across the broader U.S. intelligence community.

Hudson, a senior project manager with the College of Computing and Informatics and national security liaison for the Division of Research, plays a pivotal role in expanding UNC Charlotte’s partnerships with government and private sector entities in the defense and security fields.

The Cambridge Security Initiative’s ISI-Pro is one of the world’s foremost programs for developing the next generation of security and intelligence leaders, combining the academic excellence of Cambridge with direct engagement from seasoned global intelligence practitioners. Attendees acquire a deeper understanding of international security and intelligence dynamics, hone their strategic thinking skills and meet with others keen to develop their understanding of the global security environment. Presentations will cover topics including ethics, leadership, strategy, the role of private sector business intelligence, as well as perennial security threats such as terrorism, sabotage, counterintelligence and insider threats.

Hamby and Hudson will engage in additional academic diplomacy, meeting with intelligence studies students at King’s College London and guest lecturing at Brunel University, strengthening international academic and professional ties on behalf of UNC Charlotte.
