UNC Charlotte receives national diversity award for second consecutive year

UNC Charlotte has received the 2023 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. This is the second year in a row Charlotte has earned this national honor recognizing colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Walter Kirkland: Charlotte warrior, cyber guardian

Walter Kirkland Jr. is — literally — a guardian of the galaxy. Not a film franchise guardian. A real one. He has been selected to be a member of the U.S. Space Force, America’s newest military branch, where he will be at the forefront of the final frontier.

Women + Girls Research Alliance to host Leadership Café

The Women + Girls Research Alliance, a unit of UNC Charlotte’s urbanCORE, in partnership with the Women’s Intercultural Exchange, will host its second “Taking Space Without Apology: A Women and Girls Leadership Café” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, at UNC Charlotte’s Popp Martin Student Union.

UNC Charlotte leaders named to Who’s Who in Black Charlotte

Five members of UNC Charlotte’s faculty or staff have been named to Who’s Who in Black Charlotte. An entity of Real Times Media, Who’s Who in Black Charlotte documents the positive achievements of Black Charlotteans who are making outstanding contributions to the communities and organizations they serve. 

Office of Diversity and Inclusion launches new opportunities for fall

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion continues to respond to the expressed interests of students, faculty and staff to connect with ideas, discussions and learning opportunities surrounding issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion. This fall marks the launch of three voluntary series that feature the knowledge and input of UNC Charlotte faculty members as well as that of visiting experts.

UNC Charlotte faculty members Brittany Anderson, Janaki Gooty, Tehia Starker Glass and John Tobias ’94 are among the top 100 “power players” helping to build a more diverse, inclusive Queen City.

Dig DEEP faculty professional development series, Aug. 8-10

Dig DEEP (Dialogue, Education, Engagement and Practice), sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Provost’s Office, the Career Center and ADVANCE-FADO, is a series of professional development workshops to be held Aug. 8-10 for faculty who want to grow in their Inclusive Excellence content, curriculum, communication and pedagogy. 

Senior Yuliana Ganan receives the 2022-23 Yvette M. Huet Sí Se Puede Scholarship

Yuliana Ganan, a rising senior, is the 2022-23 recipient of the Yvette M. Huet Sí Se Puede Scholarship. Awarded to a junior or senior undergraduate student who demonstrates a continued commitment to the growth, support and empowerment of Latinx communities, the scholarship is earmarked for those who share this commitment, honor the legacies of those who have come before and will chart new pathways for those to come.
