The University Career Center will recognize disabled community members as well as their professional development and workforce rights with programming around the theme “Disability @ Work: Advocating for a Brighter Future,” during the week of April 12-19. 

The week will kick off with an open house at the Career Center Wednesday, April 12, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Other events throughout the week will feature experts and employers about their companies’ disability-focused initiatives.

UNC Charlotte’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion announces the appointment of Kendra Jason, Ph.D., as executive fellow for strategic initiatives. 

An associate professor of sociology in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Jason has over 15 years experience in social inequality, work and organizations. She holds faculty affiliate roles in the Departments of Sociology and Organizational Science, Africana Studies, Gerontology and Public Health Sciences. 

Nine new proposals have been selected by UNC Charlotte’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion to receive spring 2023 Inclusive Excellence Grants for their potential to advance diversity, promote equity and foster inclusion throughout Charlotte and the surrounding community.

Thomas Lawrence Mellichamp ’70, former director of the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens, died Sept. 12.

A professor emeritus in the Biology Department, Mellichamp retired in 2014 after nearly four decades directing the development of the University’s Botanical Gardens. He completed a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University and went on to earn a doctorate in botany from the University of Michigan before returning to join the Charlotte faculty in 1976.

Tehia Glass has joined UNC Charlotte’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion as inclusive excellence executive fellow for faculty development.
